The Grand Trunk Western has two different groups of GP38AC's on its rosters. The first group, 5800-5811 were purchased by the Grand Trunk Western. The second set was acquired in 1984, when the Detroit, Toledo & Ironton railroad was purchased by Canadian National and integrated into the Grand Trunk Western railroad. The GP38 locomotives on the DT&I roster were transfered to the GT roster as units 6207-6220. These locomotives are standard GP38AC's, without dynamic-brakes, developing 2,000 h.p. from it's 16 cylinder diesel engine, which is coupled to a DC generator and driving standard Blomberg B-B trucks.
