In 1984, the Detroit, Toledo & Ironton railroad was purchased by Canadian National and integrated into the Grand Trunk Western railroad. The GP40 locomotives on the DT&I roster were transferred to the GT roster as units 6400-6405. Their 16 cylinder diesel engines produce 3,000 h.p. and are coupled to a AC generator, driving standard blomberg trucks.
