Currently, there are eight SD40-2's operated by the GT; these locomotives were purchased from the Union Pacific in 1990. Curiously, these locomotives retained their Union Pacific colors for a time and had red GT logo and road numbers. Some have been repainted in the Canadian National North America paint scheme and have GT lettering underneath the road numbers on the cab side. The SD40-2 has a 16 cylinder, 3,000 h.p. diesel engine which drives an AC generator. It rides on a pair of three axle Flex-coil trunks, with truck centers 43' 6" apart and an overall length of 68' 10". These units are not equipped with dynamic-brakes.
